We had just gone through U.S. Immigration (while still in Canada) when we saw the sign that featured a large picture of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis.  Not only were we being treated as if we were already back in the USA; it was like being back home in St. Loius.  Our Gateway to the West was being portrayed as the Gateway to The United States.

I was pleased to be honored at a celebration that included a moving tribute by Waller McGuire, the CEO of the Library; and a proclamation from Mayor Cara Spencer that  August 5, 2026  was "Thomas F. Schlafly Day in the City of St. Louis." 

Forty-two years ago, in December of 1984, I was appointed to serve on the Board of Directors of The St.  Louis Public Library. Since then I have served under seven mayors of The City of St. Louis and during the administrations of seven US presidents.
