 The option to buy renewable energy has come to St. Louis! Ameren UE, as part of their commitment to expanding the use of renewable energy, and in response to customer demand, is offering Pure Power, a voluntary renewable energy option. Pure Power is an easy, cost-effective way to support renewable energy.
Here's how it works. Anyone – individuals and companies large and small within the Ameren UE service area – can choose to enroll in Pure Power. Ameren UE then begins purchasing renewable energy certificates (RECs) from producers of renewable energy – initially, and for as long as possible, from Missouri-based renewable energy sources. For now, 100% of that energy will be from wind facilities and in the future up to 25% could come from other renewable resources like solar or biomass.For individuals and small businesses, opting for Pure Power means paying an extra 1.5 cents per kilowatt-hour used each month (the average household uses 1000 kWh/month, which equals an extra $15). Ameren UE does not profit from the Pure Power program.
Large businesses get to choose their level of participation, buying as many 1000 kWh blocks as they want. Schlafly Beer will purchase enough blocks to represent 12% of our annual electricity usage, which makes us an Early Adopter and Pure Power Leader. We are very excited to join our fellow Early Adopters in helping to launch and support this new, Green opportunity.
