INTRODUCING DRY-HOPPED APA
Say "so long" to Expedition Reserve and "hello" to APA.
We've changed the beer by dry hopping to add extra hop flavor and aroma. Now we're ready for the packaging to reflect the improvement. But, because we're earth-friendly, we'll use up the old packaging we have in our warehouse. So, until all the Expedition Reserve labels are gone, rest assured you'll be drinking the same great beer. Fruity, spicy hoppiness with big malt flavor -- now that's an American dream!

APRIL AT THE TAP ROOM
THEOLOGY ON TAP -- MONDAY, APRIL 16
Designed to provide a casual gathering place for Catholics and other believers to sip beer, hear brief presentations and ask questions that will help them to keep their faith lives relevant amid the demands of their professional and personal lives. This month at 6:00 p.m., join Fr. Charles Bouchard, O.P., for “Compromise on Condoms?” AIDS in Africa is a public health crisis. Pope Benedict XVI has called for a report about whether it would be acceptable to allow condom use in narrow circumstances. Is this a compromise? Presented by the Aquinas Institute of Theology, online at www.ai.edu. Admission is free.
10th ANNUAL TIONOL CONCERT & CEILIDH -- FRIDAY, APRIL 20
Tionól is an Irish word meaning a gathering for sharing a common interest, and we think it describes what this event is all about bringing together some of the world’s best musicians, providing places for people to gather, play music, and to share and pass on the traditions.
Enjoy an Oatmeal Stout and hear some of the best traditional Irish music in the world on Friday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m as the 10th annual Tionól weekend kicks off. Following the concert, we’ll push back the chairs and work up a thirst with a traditional Irish céilídh dance like square dancing to Irish music. It’s easy and fun and there’ll even be a teacher to help guide you through the steps. Afterwards, relax with another of your favorite Schlafly Beers and enjoy one of the many traditional music sessions taking place. The concert and ceili are $15 at the door.
For information on the workshops on Saturday and the Saturday concert at The Sheldon Concert Hall, visit the festival's website.

Are there ethics and even rights in dealing with animals? Are they over-protected or undervalued? Should people always have priority? Grab a brew, give your view and lend an ear to others’. Free and open to everyone. MORE INFO

TOP FERMENTATION: Tom Schlafly's monthly column
Given our past proclivity for putting out April Fools’ issues of The Growler, I want to emphasize that what you are about to read is the absolute truth. As bizarre as it may seem, this is not a hoax concocted by the editorial staff of this publication.
The tale involves a former National Guard Armory in San Francisco which, like The Schlafly Tap Room, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. While the City of St. Louis welcomed us with enthusiasm back in 1991, when we first expressed interest in renovating a building that had been vacant for 22 years, city officials in San Francisco are a whole lot pickier. That city’s Planning Department reviewed and rejected numerous proposals for the former armory before approving the use it deemed most suitable: filming pornographic movies. That’s right. Apartments, storage space and even a church were all considered inappropriate, whereas plans by an outfit called Kink.com for producing hard core pornography in the building received a rapid regulatory imprimatur.
There’s a certain irony in the fact that a city named for a saint is apparently less receptive to religious worship than it is to movies far too salacious to be described in these pages. The irony is compounded by the fact that San Francisco is the namesake of Francis of Assisi, an eminently peaceful man whom few would associate with bondage and other sado-masochistic practices that form the backbone of the cinematic offerings of Kink.com.
