Hi folks, today we’re going to talk about hop aromatic recognition and our sense of smell, otherwise known as the olfactory system. When we smell something, there is a complex series of events that take place in our nose and brain, as we process aromatics into electric signals sent to our central nervous system.
This week we see the seasonal release of Tripel on draft at the Schlafly Taproom. Tripel had its beginning as the original HOP in the City beer, all the way back in 1999. From there it became a yearly seasonal release at the Taproom. In 2008, we began bottling Tripel as part of our Bottle Conditioned Belgian Ale Series of beers sold in 750ml bottles.

Schlafly Special Release Christmas Ale is currently out in the market, so I thought it would be fun to see if I couldn’t find out a bit more information about this always popular winter release for you good people. To do that, I went straight to the source and talked with the gentlemen responsible for creating the recipe for our Christmas Ale; James “Otto” Ottolini. Otto has been with Schlalfy almost from the beginning and he currently oversees all the brewing operations at our Bottleworks facility.

Every year on the 4th of July we celebrate the anniversary of our country declaring independence from Great Britain by lighting off fireworks, getting together with family and friends and treating ourselves to backyard barbecues and beers, and no beer in the history of the United States of America is more patriotic than our Schlafly American IPA. Our American IPA, quite literally, is handcrafted with real bits of America, so you know it works.
